The Brief

Mr and Mrs P had been looking at kitchens for a long time, but unable to find a designer who had found a solution to meet their various needs.

They had three separate rooms, but wanted to open up the kitchen add a breakfast bar, and create a sociable area to cook in when their friends were over, but conversely didn’t want to swap the kitchen for the dining room as they would lose too much living space.

Another option would have been to completely remove the wall from between the kitchen and dining room, however, this wasn’t possible due to the structure of the building as it backs on to a conservatory. To achieve the wish list for this couple, the solution needed to be creative.

JD Kitchens Solution

To create the open plan living area, with breakfast bar and show cooking station that was in the customers dream, we had to think very creatively.

We initially explored all of the options to remove walls and swap the kitchen for the dining room, but they all involved either considerable expense, or significant compromise, neither of which were acceptable solutions.

By removing conventional ideas, and think beyond the traditional layout of a kitchen, Jason was able to tick all of the boxes. He created the open plan kitchen dining room, included a stunning breakfast bar and created the much-coveted cooking station, and with plenty of storage throughout. Importantly, Jason was able to do this with a stunning design that brings all three rooms together, maintaining the large family living space.

The layout

Jason began by designing a layout that made the most of the existing facilities in the compact kitchen, and to keep it fresh and uncluttered ensured that fussy details were not part of the design.

Floor to ceiling handle less Schuller C Unigloss cupboards in grey, brought clean lines, and precision engineering to the space. Integrated Neff appliances were all hidden behind sleek grey doors, making the space between the sink, fridge and cooker work together.
As the family love to cook, Jason installed a Neff pyrolytic oven and a compact oven and microwave, housing them neatly on top of each other.

The sink area benefited from the same fuss free design treatment. The Blanco – Etagon Silgranit sink in Alumetallic blends into the worktop, avoiding a visual overload, and is complemented by a Blanco Eye brushed steel tap.

Continuing into the kitchen are a Neff dishwasher, Neff fridge-freezer and further under counter freezer and a Neff washing machine.

Bringing the kitchen and dining room together at the heart of the room is the cooking area, designed with angled Neff extractor fan to quickly and quietly remove cooking odours. Worktops sit either side of the Neff induction hob, and cupboards and drawers sit below it. The area is both aesthestically balanced and practical.

Further cupboards were installed in the dining room to extend the look of the kitchen into the dining room unobtrusively, and create more storage.

Breakfast time

Finally, the couple wanted a breakfast bar that was directly accessible from the kitchen. Jason’s design extended the kitchen into the conservatory breakfast room via an archway. The sleek and smooth lines of the Quartz Infiniti Arizona worktop brings the whole room together, with contemporary styling.

The installation was not without problems. On the first day the builder appointed by the customer had chopped his toe off, so Jason calmly stepped in to project manage the initial part of the building work, as well as taking the kitchen through to installation!

Thank you!

“I would just like to thank JD Kitchens for the fabulous kitchen you have just installed. Not just the quality and look of the kitchen but in particular the fantastic customer service.
After looking around at various companies I was a little confused and felt uncomfortable with some of the service.

From the day I walked into your showroom I was very comfortable and felt you listened and have managed the project so well and have been very attentive. When I had issues with my builders you stepped in with a plasterer and moved your itinerary around to fit in.

Kev the fitter was wonderful. He did a great job and was very laid back which put me at ease. I would recommend you to any of my friends knowing that you provide a really good service with friendly and expert customer service.

Thank you very much.
