Let JD Kitchens colour you happy!

‘COLOUR me happy there’s a sofa in here for two’; The surprised and delighted exclamation from the classic 90’s film Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.

The scene, a lift in a posh hotel. The subject : a sofa in a lift.

Fast forward almost 30 years and she probably wouldn’t bat an eyelid. Luxury and plush are at every turn.

The demand for quality over cheap and disposable is prevalent: reusable coffee cups and a campaign to say no to plastic straws are just some examples and we’re seeing more every day.

Couple this with the incredible speed of technological advances and knowledge, and eco is a factor we all need to consider.

Dave Charlton Director at JD Kitchens explains
“Only a few years ago we needed to explain the benefits of boiling water taps (safety, speed and eco-friendliness), and now people are simply walking in and asking for a brand name like Quooker, it is fast becoming standard.

Similarly, we were previously at pains to explain the eco credentials of our kitchens, and why we selected them over other quality brands. These days our customers know more than us, they care about the environment and are looking for something long lasting and robust, but dripping in sophistication.

As an engineer by trade I wanted to ensure that what we offered not only looked sleek and stylish and used cutting edge technology, but had eco credentials to boot. When we came across the Next125 range I knew we’d found the kitchen brand for us.”

It is designed and made using recycled materials and sustainable products. The range is constantly evolving, finding alternative ways to be more innovative, environmentally friendly and efficient.

Sleek handleless glass doors, splashes of colour and clever use of texture and lighting make the Next 125 range absolutely guaranteed to colour you happy, and impress every single day for years to come.

Double award for designers at JD Kitchens

We’re delighted that two of our designers have scooped industry recognition for their kitchen designs at the prestigious KBSA awards ceremony.

Cassandra Wilkinson – Leonard and Jason Johnson, who has only worked at Warrington based JD Kitchens since for one year. Both received commendations from the panel for their creative use of space and the attention to detail applied in their real-life home designs.

Jason explained,
“Sometimes a customer comes in they know exactly what they’re looking for, which is great, but I really enjoy helping to see beyond what already exists and create a new idea that makes the most of their space. Ultimately, I am here to deliver their dream kitchen within their budget, and the commendation from KBSA is a nice acknowledgement that I am getting it right”

Dave Charlton MD is proud of the achievements of his team, and believes that the future is bright for both designers.
“Both Cass and Jason are not only really talented designers, they really look after their customers, throughout the build and installation to get the job done professionally and with little fuss. I am incredibly proud that they have both recognised by the industry, they both deserve it”.

Fresh new design for JD Kitchens

With 17 years of experience in luxury kitchen, office and bedroom design we thought it was about time we turn our creative approach on ourselves!

We turned to local marketing company Forty Communications and design agency Future to work their magic on the rebrand, which has had locals popping their heads around their door in Padgate to say that they love it!

Our new logo adorns our vans, shop and website and fits beautifully with engineer owner Dave Charlton’s favourite kitchen range, Next125.

With real wood veneers, high gloss lacquers and glass fronts the quality of the materials is outstanding, and we wanted this to be reflected in our new look”.

And it’s not just the exterior of the shop that has had a refit, we’ve taken it inside too, with several new kitchen displays and new technology from Neff, Quooker and Nikla Tessla that customers can try for themselves.

A perfect kitchen for afternoon tea

All our customers have special requirements, even if it is just that they want the kitchen they’ve always dreamt of. But one of our most recent clients had extra requirements. Not only was her kitchen in a 19-century barn conversion complete with low beams and no route for extraction, she runs Violet’s Vintage Afternoon Tea’s so needs additional space to design and develop her lovely cakes. This required a solution that created a business kitchen separate from the home kitchen. Both needed plenty of storage space and worktops, and a separate utility room to deal with all the vintage linens the company creates daily.

The design brief was to be elegant and in keeping with the rural location, but streamlined and functional. The client wanted to make the most of the views at the rear of the property onto open fields.

Our solution.

This was wonderful kitchen to design; a rural barn conversion with original beams and original flooring looking for a modern transformation. The challenges however, were the same things that made it beautiful -low beams and solid flooring that made planning wall units and ventilation tricky.

We began by taking a fresh look at the available space and worked with the customer to plan the rooms to make the most of the light and the rural views that the property benefitted from. By utilising an underused sitting room, we were able to open up the kitchen space and create three separate kitchen rooms, one for the main family kitchen, one working kitchen and a utility room.

The existing kitchen faced an overlooked courtyard used for parking. Our vision turned the kitchen around so that those seated at the substantial breakfast bar would have wonderful views overlooking the meadows to the rear of the property.

We created a dividing wall between the ‘working’ kitchen and the family kitchen space. Our design included reclaimed doors, which the customer sourced. Plastering was done in sympathy with the architecture, artfully exposing a feature of bare brickwork.

An elegant and warm kitchen with German functionality made the most of the space and remained in keeping with the period and architecture of the property. The shaker style kitchen in two colours was selected to add interest and texture to the large room. Grey units were complemented by dark blue cupboards under the breakfast bar to create a focal point for the room. The bespoke painted leg was designed to blend with the scheme, rather than introducing a chrome leg or other material which might had distracted the eye.

For added interest and practicality for regular baking, the cupboards were finished in matt and a Quartz worktop and Quooker tap provide beautiful form to the function of a busy practical space.

To streamline the wall of units, larders and oven housing we removed some of the handles and installed push fit doors.

Low beams and solid floors meant we were unable to vent through the floor or ceiling, so we installed a downdraft extractor from NEFF to clean and recirculate the air.

Hidden behind a beautiful reclaimed door the working kitchen houses several further cupboards, integrated appliances and practical worktops, in the same durable and beautiful ‘Nova’ from Schuller.

A utility room by Schuller completes the kitchen redesign. Functional yet stylish; the third and smallest room in the house has everything required to separate manage the laundry and cleaning created by domestic and commercial life.

JD Kitchens have been designing and installing beautiful kitchens, bedrooms and studies in homes across the North West for over 16 years, and with brand new utility rooms to add to their collection, we have everything you need to stylishly modernise your home.

We are keen to ensure that their designs stay fresh and contemporary, and recently visited Milan to discover the latest from the kitchen catwalk. I was impressed with the new ranges released by German Designer Schuller, particularly the Next 125 range, and loved their innovative plans for the future of kitchens.

I loved the new kitchen concepts and came away buzzing with ideas for new designs. I was particularly impressed with how the future of technology will ease our domestic lives, such as being able to use an app to turn on the oven, and induction hobs that look like the worktop so that the kitchen is further streamlined.

Transforming spaces

The client brief

We’d love to modernise our home and transform the current separate dining room and kitchen into one beautiful open plan living space. We’d love a new kitchen with clean lines and a good amount of working surface area for food preparation and all the appliances integrated.

JD Kitchens Design Solution

We began by organising the structural work that was required. Walls needed to come out and the windows were changed to a beautiful bi-folding door to increase the light and open the room to the garden.

The open plan room was zoned to include a TV/media, kitchen and dining. The room design now has seamless integration, with a breakfast bar and a small dining area.

Clean lines were achieved with Schuller X2 Handle-less kitchen and quartz work surfaces with window sill.

Integrated Neff Appliances, Flex-induction hob, Slide and hide oven, combination microwave oven, integrated fridge freezer, integrated dishwasher. To maintain the sleek finish, the design lead to a flush-mounted ceiling extractor.

Caroline & Paul were delighted with their new designer open plan living space and sent us the following letter.

To the team at JD Kitchens

Thank you very much for helping us create our lovely kitchen, we are really pleased with the result.

The whole project was managed well by Jason and completed quickly and efficiently. We weren’t the easiest customers, changing our minds frequently during the project, but this was handled well and with patience. Any minor problems we had were dealt with professionally and without hassle.

We would recommend you to friends as we never felt hurried or pressured into decisions and were given good contacts and advice for other things such as windows, bi-fold and exterior doors. We were very impressed by all the different people JD organised to do the work builders, electricians, plumbers and fitters.

Thank you again.
